This guide is here to help you get a strong internet connection. You should always check your internet connection, so you won’t have connection problems during calls.
Check your connection before starting a call
At the last step before starting your search and finding a partner for your session, you can check your connection by clicking on the Check Connection button.
If you see red values, it may indicate that your connection is poor and it may impact directly the quality of your call. See below how to read the results of this test.
Connection speed
First, make sure your internet speed is fast enough to have video calls. This is a table showing the Mbps (Megabits per second) needed for a stale connection.
You need at least 5 to 40 Mbps to make video calls, although ideally your Internet speed should be higher than this to avoid connection issues. 100 Mbps or more is considered fast and reliable.
Here is another link where you can test your connection speed: https://fast.com/en/.
The scan starts automatically once the tab is opened, and it only takes a few seconds. You should see results like this:
Ping Test
Once you’re sure the connection speed is strong, you can also do a ping test to see if there are no outages or problems with your network.
Ping speed measures the number of milliseconds it takes for network devices to “communicate” with each other. It’s measured in milliseconds (ms). The higher the number, the longer the wait time.
Click “Show more info” on the Internet Speed Test page to see these values.
Or see in the result of the test you ran when you clicked on Check connection
Ping value |
Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 0 to 20 ms | Excellent connection |
| 20 to 50 ms | Good connection |
| 50 to 100 ms | Moderate latency |
| 100 to 200 ms | Average connection speed |
| 200 to 500 ms | High latency |
| More than 500 ms | Connection may be unstable |
If your ping is greater than 100, follow these steps:
- Move closer to your router or modem
- Close other open tabs (the only tab open should be Conversifi)
- Reduce the number of devices using Wi-Fi on your network if possible
- Connect device to the router with an Ethernet cable if you have one
- Restart your router and/or modem
- Using Chrome, Firefox or Safari browsers - which are more compatible with Conversifi - can help.
Clear Browser Cache
To improve your tested ping value, we suggest clearing your browser cache. If you don't know how to clear your browser cache, we leave you the links below:
- For Chrome: Link to clear cache
- For Firefox: Link to clear cache
- For Safari (we recommend Safari when using an Apple device): Link to clear cache
Restart the computer
After completing all these steps, we suggest restarting your PC or laptop if there is still a problem.
Repeat the speed test
Once you’ve completed the steps mentioned above, and your device has restarted, repeat the speed test so that you can be completely sure that the ping has gone down.
Camera and microphone
As another tool, you can check this link to be sure your camera and microphone are working well before making calls: https://test.8x8.vc.
If everything’s in order and the camera, microphone, network, and connectivity are working correctly, you will see green check marks displayed.
If you passed the speed test, the ping test, and the camera and microphone test, congratulations! This means you should be able to make your calls without any problems.
